The most important question about GDPR software is not "are the servers in the EU?", it is "how many US services are actually hanging in my stack?". Every single tool brings its own data flow, its own contract and its own legal risk. Bundle functions together and you simplify both compliance and operations.

Key takeaways

  • GDPR-compliant software means more than "EU servers": company headquarters, sub-processors and whether you can leave again all count.
  • An all-in-one stack from one vendor cuts the number of data processing agreements and the number of points where data leaves the sovereign space.
  • meetergo bundles scheduling, video, e-signatures, transcription, CRM and WhatsApp in one platform, hosted in Germany.
  • As a German GmbH, meetergo is not subject to the US CLOUD Act.
  • Free to start on the Basic plan, paid tiers from 7 € per month.

What makes software GDPR-compliant and sovereign?

GDPR-compliant, sovereign software meets three conditions: the data demonstrably sits in the EU, the provider answers to EU law, and you can export your data in full at any time. The server location alone is only half the picture.

The most common fallacy is "servers in Frankfurt" on the data sheet. If that server belongs to a provider with a US parent, the CLOUD Act can still apply. What decides it is the company headquarters, not just the data centre. There is more on this in our guide to data sovereignty.

Then there is the operational side: one data processing agreement, a manageable list of sub-processors and a clean data export decide whether you really keep control, or only on paper.

Why an all-in-one stack instead of many separate tools?

Because each additional tool grows your compliance risk. For every service you need its own data processing agreement, you review its own sub-processors, and you create another route by which data can fall under foreign law.

A typical mid-market stack combines a US scheduling tool, a US video tool, a US signature service and a US CRM. That is four contracts, four data flows and, in case of doubt, four times the CLOUD Act exposure, as our guide to the CLOUD Act explains.

Bundle these functions into one EU platform and the surface shrinks to one vendor, one contract, one data space. That is the real lever of sovereignty, and it cuts cost and admin along the way.

Which tools does meetergo cover in one platform?

meetergo replaces several separate services with one platform. Instead of wiring up a dedicated tool for each task, the core functions run together:

meetergo versus a US tool stack

A US stack of specialised tools is functionally mature and deeply integrated, that is its strength. On data control, though, the balance looks different.

How we handle sovereignty at meetergo

We built meetergo deliberately along these criteria. As a German GmbH we are not subject to the CLOUD Act, we host exclusively with Hetzner in Germany with servers in Frankfurt and Nuremberg, and we sign a data processing agreement with every customer.

The biggest difference, in our view, comes from bundling: because scheduling, video, signatures, transcription and CRM all run in one platform, we do not have to chain together external services that bring the risk back. To be honest about it, meetergo is a SaaS product, not self-hosting. For most companies that is exactly right, because the data still sits in Germany under EU law.

What to check when choosing

Test every provider against five points before you sign:

  • Company headquarters: is there a US parent or US subsidiary?
  • Server location: does the data demonstrably sit in the EU?
  • Data processing: is a GDPR-compliant DPA in place?
  • Sub-processors: which third-party services are involved, and where do they sit?
  • Data export: can you get your data back out at any time?

Initiatives such as Gaia-X and the work of the European Commission show that European alternatives are becoming the standard for more and more companies.

Frequently asked questions

What is GDPR-compliant software?

Software whose data processing meets the requirements of the GDPR: data in the EU, a data processing agreement and transparent sub-processors. The server location alone is not enough.

Is an EU server enough for GDPR compliance?

No. If the EU server belongs to a provider with a US parent, the CLOUD Act can apply. Company headquarters and corporate structure matter too.

What does an all-in-one tool do for data protection?

Fewer vendors means fewer data processing agreements, fewer sub-processors and fewer points at which data can leave the sovereign space.

Is meetergo really free to use?

Yes, free on the Basic plan. Paid tiers with extended features start at 7 € per month and can be tested at no cost.

Set up your stack sovereignly

Run your most important tools through the five criteria above and flag every provider with a US tie. Where it fits, consolidate. To see what a Germany-hosted, GDPR-compliant stack looks like, try the free Basic plan from meetergo.
